WRC's Mission, Vision, & Values

MISSION Statement:

Watuppa Rowing Center empowers youth and enriches their lives by providing equitable access for all to the transformative power of the sport of rowing and the water.

VISION Statement:

WRC's vision is to create a diverse and welcoming rowing community where individuals of all backgrounds feel valued, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential. Through equitable access to rowing, WRC develops lifelong athletes, fosters teamwork and resilience, and builds a culture where everyone belongs—both on and off the water.

WRC removes financial, physical, and geographic barriers to participation by offering free, year-round rowing programs for youth, and affordable fee-based adult rowing programs. WRC fosters an inclusive environment where every individual—regardless of background or ability—can experience the transformative power of the sport of rowing and water.

 VALUE Statement:

Watuppa Rowing Center achieves its mission and vision by upholding these core values:

  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: WRC actively welcomes and uplifts people from all backgrounds, cultures, races, genders, physical abilities, and socioeconomic statuses, and ensures that rowing is a sport where everyone has a seat in a boat.

  • Accessibility: WRC breaks down barriers—financial, physical, and geographic—to make rowing available to all who wish to participate.

  • Empowerment: WRC uses rowing as a transformational tool for personal growth, leadership, and confidence-building in youth and adults.

  • Community & Belonging: WRC cultivates an environment of respect, teamwork, and mutual support, where every rower feels seen, heard, and valued.

  • Excellence & Growth: WRC encourages each rower to challenge themselves, embrace perseverance, and strive for continuous improvement.

  • Stewardship & Responsibility: WRC honors South Watuppa Pond and the waterways on which we row, promotes sustainability, and upholds our responsibility to create a positive and lasting impact on our community and environment by honoring the generations of those who stewarded the water and land before us.
